D.C Style - Thumbnail 1.0.5 Patch Level 6

No permission to download
I just installed this add-on and should the thumbnails be displayed automatically or do I have to edit each thread one by one? Currently, even if the first message of a thread includes an image it displays the image by default. Am I missing something?

As long as Addonslab Thread Thumbnails are not usable, forums cannot be upgraded to 2.3.2 if this function is essential.

Have you reviewed all the important add-ons and understood what is important and what isn’t? Unfortunately, they all have some advantages and some disadvantages. Unfortunately, no one has yet analyzed all the add-ons and combined the best aspects of each into a single add-on. This add-on is important, really important. It would be great if someone could take up this topic to present a solution that can even be a paid one, provided it includes everything that’s needed and excludes everything that is annoying, slows down the system and/or work, etc.

I’m happy to provide more details later, but for now, I need to review all the add-ons again to understand/remember what is important and what isn’t, or what doesn’t work at all because too many fields, tables, and queries have been added.

Here are the add-ons that I looked at some time ago. There’s also one from Themehouse for XF1 that had a few nice features, as far as I can remember. Recently, I’ve been recommending the add-on from Addonslab to my clients because it covers more areas, and you can expect updates. However, it currently cannot be used with 2.3.2. The add-on from Xenbros doesn’t require a table, and as long as you don’t need different values for the nodes, you might be able to pack that into options, which would also save the new fields in the forum. I’ll take a closer look at it shortly.

The main problem remains the mix of threads with (large icons in the overview) and normal threads, especially when everything is mixed together in the New or Search results.

As far as I recall, no one is really addressing this with a good solution. Another issue was, as far as I remember that not everyone uses the thumbnails. I definitely cannot load 20 large images in the list.

And you always had to tweak things when you had different image formats, but with a bit of CSS and “canvas,” it somehow worked.

All in all, and I’m repeating myself here, no one has yet built a truly good solution that, for purists, ideally works without tables and fields or provides a second solution offering maximum flexibility and configuration options. Today, I need a solution without fields and tables, so I’ll see if and how I can put together something small and sufficient for now.

  • About the large images issue, I'm working on this case to provide a solution to minimize the image results in places that don't need large images.
  • About the "solution without fields and tables", currently I don't think there is such a solution but still keeps a good loading speed. You can wait for other developers for some ideas, but personally I think it is very difficult to achieve.

I just updated my Xenforo site from a 2.2 to the latest. I also tried to update this add on but ran into the following error. Any help would be appreciated. Our community loves this add on.

Is it possible for this add on to be applied to the Trending content widget with "Carousel" Display style chosen?

My main problem with this is that it really doesn't use existing XF thumbnails it just displays the full size attachment smaller with css.
So you are loading monstrous 4k images at 50x50px size and for that reason is not worth it.
The size of the page becomes too heavy.

Hello,

can you please in a next update change in DC_Widgets_newThreads_widget line 21:
HTML:
<link rel="stylesheet" href="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/Swiper/4.5.0/css/swiper.min.css" />

to

HTML:
<xf:css src="https://cdnjs.cloudflare.com/ajax/libs/Swiper/4.5.0/css/swiper.min.css" />

The first causes an error for me at the AMP add-on and google webmaster console. The second one fixed it and works.

Thanks :-)
