Custom member field - public or private?

I'm looking to make a custom member field but I need to make 110% sure only the profile owner can see the field. Is there an easy way to go about this?

Uncheck the viewable options when creating the field:



Then manually place them as desired:

When you say manually place it, you mean put it on their profile? I'm just wanting a pseudo-sensitive data field they can fill out and go back into their profile and change if need be. No need to display it anywhere special. Are we talking about the same thing?

Then don't edit any templates since you don't want to display it anywhere.
