Custom Field: File/Image Upload

It would be very useful to have a custom field type for file/image upload. Not only would we be able to force an upload of an image or document for a specific purpose, we would also be able to display it in a standard location. This would be useful for thread fields, profile fields, resource fields and extremely useful fields in 3rd party addons.


How it could work:
A new custom field type would have a upload button to upload an image. A drag n drop field would be nice, but is not essential.

After the image is uploaded and the item saved the image would display at the location of the field.

It would be nice to be able to set max width/height through css.

This proposal is really very nice, hopefully the developers with the new version will add such an option.

Absolutly. The user field should extend the core Custom User Fields functionality and be available even to other areas of XenForo, so this could be used in add-ons. Could be handy. I used to have something similar on another solution. Let's say you do car reviews. The fields are:

Make
Model
Year
Pic of exterior
Pic of interior
Rating

Then the body of the post where they can add more pics as attachments, etc.

Think movie reviews:

Pic of promotional poster nice and tidy in the fields.
Etc...

I wonder if there's a way to utilize attachments, and choose to have pic appear directly after a certain field. However that would be on the user whereas being a field, it is already done for you.

The question would be does it take away from attachment space?
Pros: Streamlined
Cons: Members whose attachments are full or have 0 ability will not be able to complete the post which will not look uniform.

Separate permission required, imo.

Yes, an image custom field is definitely needed. Like Crazy-Achmet said, I'm surprised this isn't included by default.

How about including the ability to crop the photo to a specific size or ratio, so it's a standard size? This would be very helpful for consistency in layouts.

Meanwhile I started to build this as an AddOn. Expect a first beta in a few days.

This is really needed for us as a replacement for Vbulletin's sig image. They have a profile fields for uploading an image, and then the custom bb code SIG for inserting it into the signatures.

In any case, there are a lot of reasons why extra images as custom profile fields could be useful.
