XF 2.0 Create subdomain for testing before moving to main domain?

I never done this way before thus I would like to ask your advice. I am going to plan to move a forum Xen 1.5 to Xenforo 2, but I don't want to test directly on main domain, should I create a sub domain for testing before moving to main domain?

I mean this: sub.example.com

after tested everything is ok, I can change sub.example.com to example.com and run as a real forum? and that is right, should I only update Options \ Basic board information and change Board URL, Home page URL for sub domain as main domain?
Also, I will delete all files and folders of main domain and move all files/folders from sub domain to my domain instead.

Is there anything else should i change when move forum from sub domain to main forum?
