Core - PixelExit.com [Deleted]

Will it be possible to just get the old version with some 1.2 fixes? All that really needed to be fixed was the queue icons in the title bars and the icons for the redactor editor... that its.

All this new stuff in the new version, like "XenBase" don't help anything; in fact, it just makes things worse. I absolutely hate it when skins require a "base framework"; all it does is slow things down, and I can already feel that the new version of this skin is nowhere near as fast as the old version.

All of our styles going forward will include the framework, it's our decision to help us style faster and give much more options to the end user.

With that said... I can whip up something for you and send it your way in regards to the old version.

Hi @Russ, what is the right method to upgrade (update) this style?

Depends on how many edits you've done to be honest... if you've like just changed the node icons/logo, import the XML's and overwrite.

If you have done numerous changes it might be worth while to install it as a new style and move your edits over.

For further reference if you are doing multiple changes to the style, you can install a child style off of core, and make all your edits there.

I didn't really make any changes, just to fix the issues I was having. But hopefully they are fixed in this release. So I will Import XML's. Step by step, is this what I should do?

1. I copy and overwrite all files at my server.
2. I import style-xenBase.xml and overwrite the existing XenBase Style.
3. I import style-Core.xml and overwrite the existing XenBase Style.

Am I done?

Yep, but... definitely make sure that you make backups of your style you have installed first***
Backup your FOLDER and EXPORT your current styles.

I think the issues you were having that you posted on pixelExit.com have all been fixed. My head has been racing 1000 miles this past week however I'm pretty sure I snagged all of them. I more than likely missed one :D.

Hi @Russ, i have installed both the xenbase, and core. Do they need to be a child of each other or anything?

The theme doesnt show up well on my test install of 1.2. Things look out of wack, for example footer doesnt get shown even though it is on there. I have selected core as my default theme. Not sure what i am supposed to do with the xenbase thing except activate footer etc...but its not selected as default. Is there some instructions for ppl not familiar with your style?

Core should be a child of XenBase.
Once you install both styles you can disable XenBase in your selection on your styles screen.

I'll add some screenshots hopefully tomorrow on clearer instructions rather than the read-me

That would be great... because this new version may as well be a completely different skin from the old version. There is so much different that I can only view it as a complete catastrophe of an upgrade.

I beg to differ there, all that was added was options, and to compare the gradient and the nav font was changed in your example. But we all have our own opinions.

I can compare your demo (http://pixelexit.com/demo/xf/index.php) to my forum (http://yokappa.com/) and you can see the differences. Besides the obvious gradient and font changes that make the skin look way more unpolished, there are other significant changes as well.

For instance, this new version makes the itemCount boxes look terrible. As well, mousing over subnav items will simply change the color of the text of the subnav item, instead of changing the background to black. The topCtrl buttons also don't stand out as well.

There was very little, that actually needed to be changed from the previous version, except for compatibility fixes for XF1.2. Personally, I would rather just use the older version; but it's not available on your website. If you could make the older version available, I'll just use that and update the skin for 1.2 myself.

Like I said I'll already do that for you since it's your preference. Not going to sit here and "argue(argue speaking loosely haha :))" back and forth but the changes you're seeing are extremely minor next to Xenbase. Literally not that much has changed aside from minor cosmetic changes. The top control is powered via a single style property, the darker node color is primaryContents background color(lightened in the newer versions).

Nevertheless I'll get the old style for you in private. Thanks

I'm digging into this to modify for my own sites, and I have to say, it is extremely nice to work with. The colour changer via a single style combined with its corresponding color folder in images, a nice touch.

I do think you have excessive image use, but I will clean that up for my own use due to heavy site numbers. Overall, this is a well executed design. Clean, simple... easy to read. Those are important points. All the finicky stuff can be easily changed in use.

I would say don't change anything, other than if you shift to more sprite and css backgrounds by default.

I'm getting a message that the navigation templates are outdated. It says the custom version is 1.2.0 beta 4 and the parent version is 1.2.0 RC1.

login bar disappears on me...

While browsing on mobile or period, only change with the login bar was a small fix for narrow width responsive.

Strange I'll have a look have you made any changes to those templates?
