Copyright question

Is it a copyright violation to knowingly use a website’s domain name in a subdomain of a free hosting provider just because you like that name?

I am more concerned because i am banned from a forum and want to start my own within the same niche and couldn’t think of a better name lol . Members are telling me i should not have done this and not sure what the site owner would think. But just to clarify I don’t have any intentions to copy layout or content

I can't imagine there being a trademark concern. For one yoursite.freewebs.com isn't yoursite.com.

That being said is the website trademarked? Is it reputable and established in its niche?

The legal ramifications IMO are nil as I assume you're not copying a large corporation, however the moral ones are yours to decide for yourself.
