Conversations?

I have just had a new member join and comment in conversations? Please excuse me, but what are conversations as I have never seen it before? I responded to the "conversation" thinking it was a post. Sorry, my forum is relatively new, and so am I.

Conversations are actually private messages between members. Messages are posts.

So its an integral component of Xenforo, not an addon? I see very little reference to it in Xenforo admin

Yes its core not an addon.

OK, I asked because I don't see it under "addons" and I don't remember installing it?

As I said, conversations are actually private messages. Xenforo is different in the way they label things. Not sure what other forum software you are used to using.

Ok the manual says "
Message users
The final communication method is similar to the email method, but instead of sending email, it will insert a new conversation with each user targeted by the criteria, containing the message you enter.
To prevent your own inbox receiving a deluge of replies, you may lock the conversations as soon as they are sent, which will essentially turn them into read-only messages.
If you do not lock the conversation, you can optionally leave the conversation and ignore future replies, or leave the conversation and accept future replies, which will discourage users from replying to the conversation even though they are able to do so."

Conversations are not an addon. Its the core.
