@Wutime I looked into this some more. These screen shots might help you. It looks like if the thread is a type Question, XF elevates the 1st post above a sort function that is not in a type Discussion.

Okay, but is the blur happening on the 1st post when it should be ignored, or this is happening on every page of the thread listing when it's type question?

Or no, just on the pages 2+ because the original post question is put to the top of the page?

I got it, working on it now. But note, you're still using the old "guests" mode; you need to update (see note).

The only thing not working for questions as expected is that the solution is not handled properly. The "question" is treated as an article; so I'll make that option-based. Otherwise the "question type" is handled properly; but only in the "user mode".

So yeah, you should move to the permission-mode system, it only takes a few minutes for most setups (see helping this customer).

It's more straightforward than you might think, but I agree, there are a lot of options it can feel overwhelming.

The permissions once setup, especially for your use-case, shouldn't take more than a few minutes to nail down.

The default settings for the options are well thought-out so if you have developer mode on you can peek at the defaults for each, and consider whether you really need something other than the original default.

Strange, I don't get that issue on stock Xenforo. A question thread always lists the first post for all pages as the "question" (the first post from the thread). If you have "do not blur for X posts", that question is not blurred.

Are you using "User mode" ?

If you're using "Guest mode" I have no idea what might be happening; I don't test or support that legacy method anymore.

Okay, so you've switch to user mode, and don't have your pages cached, and you're finding posts that should be blurred are not blurred?

I have no problem with getting into dev mode.
The issue still persists. Will / can you fix question threads?

Yeah, working on it. Took me a bit to figure out what the issue was but I see now; the indexing isn't right when it's "firstPost".

I think I've got it solved and I'm just testing before releasing the update.

• Fix: Post-bit user-message will only blur when actual post is blurred
• Fix: JavaScript no longer forces sticky after 200px and is dynamic based on original positioning of the first notice
• Fix: Properly indexed "firstPost" so that's blur behaves as expected
• Fix: User + Guest mode now properly obeys indexing for blur counts
• Remove: v2.4.1 option to treat questions like articles (just awkward and unnecessary)

@philmckrackon give 2.4.2 a try. If you're finding the question doesn't behave as expected I'm a bit at a loss to explain it and wonder whether it's an addon or whether you're using XF 2.2.x? (which I just realized I never tested and will do so now)
