I know this is probably something considered previously, but common blocks of code/templates (like who's online, staff online) could be a widget that you are able to freely display in a place of your choice.
We have no idea of the template managing at the minute, so forgive me for just throwing this out there, but I think having widgets for our code that we can choose where to display.. like "in sidebar", "below forums", "above forums", helps for the less-experienced users to at least add some uniqueness to their forum.
