Add-on CometChat Xenforo Chat Display

I have up to 11000 concurrent members on my site and only a few hundred who should have chat access.
Previously cometchat kept bringing down my site. It didn't matter which third party service was used. One big problem was that it kept connecting to the database (for every user on my site) over port 80, which makes little sense to me.
Another problem is that their devs did not seem to know what they were doing and were working against each other. Bugs they fixed always reappeared in next releases. Devs touching things that were promised they would not touch.
Their chat history plugin is essential to us, but this has so many issues. CometChat still advises not to use this part of their software. Which I think is weird because they basically affirm part of their software is not functional but they do not rewrite this. So after seeing my site brought down again and again, I threw in the towel while still having a grand invested in it. I rather enjoyed not having to deal with my site getting nuked by cometchat.

But my users complained that the replacement chat was lame compared to the full featured cometchat. My users need a chat footer bar. Cometchat promised that they would have it nailed down this time. So they have set up a cheap VPS for me and we will be testing this setup. Preparations were not giving much hope, as support is still riddled by mistakes and Indian support staff doing and asking for senseless things. I'm still going through with it.

If this fails I will have to find an alternative, but so far I have found none. Arrowchat is really basic functionality wise. Most other chat solutions look outdated.
For those of you who seek an alternative, check my Chat Software review index here: http://www.vbulletin-commercial.com/index.php?action=displaycat&catid=9

I have already paid them to create the following xenforo functionality:
  1. chat room logs available to xenforo moderator usergroups
  2. integration with XF user upgrades: show chat bar to all users, but upon use forward guests to registration and members to user upgrades.
  3. xf usergroup permissions / banned state for all of cometchat, including web app
  4. chat report to XF report center
  5. temporary ban users
  6. staff chatroom permissions
  7. a bunch of chat xf-usergroup-permissions
So this should be appearing in one of their next releases unless they again fail to get it to work and refund me. I hope things work out this time.

Regarding cache: their release notes state that they do cache sessions now. This is something to enquire about.

I have asked @CometChat @CometChat Team to add cometchat to the resource manager. This would allow
Maybe they can answer some of the questions above.

Any updates on your experience with CC? In theory it should be the most feature-rich solution, i've paid for it and am trying to integrate it right now, but I can't even get the basic integration to work properly with XF 1.4... it isn't logging users in automatically :(

the struggle is still ongoing. not much to report yet, except that the Indian developers are trying again and again. At least now my site is not going down, but the chat goes down soon after they fix it.

I am taking to them to hopefully get a new version of the chat bar that doesn't call to the software for every user. it should not connect users that have no permission.

it would be useful if cometchat would have a bug tracker so that bug would be fixed in the software instead of in a single install. I keep encountering the same issues over time.

interesting. I'm still looking to find the right things for my site. I'm new to Xenforo and such so i'm still trying to find my way around. (so i burn money here and there finding out that the salespitch isn't actually living up to the product)
i found this site: https://www.spot.im/v1/index.html?embed (used on http://skinxf.net/forum/ )

So far i have played with: ArrowChat, Cometchat and TaigaChat.

TaigaChat i use for shoutbox

ArrowChat has a nice footerbar but not all tools on it work very well with https (browsers called it unsafe.)
If solo for chat it might be a good choice. (but i have no experience with large numbers of users)

CometChat looks fairly professional and works so far. However, i have no idea what would happen if the usernumber goes up. I really hope to tell one day. Integration is a farce if its about the CP. You need to login again on a webpage inside the admin panel. (which i find ... weird)

the spot.im i stumbled over yesterday, says it is in Beta and free. (but i don't believe in free. probably gonna cost when going out of beta)

Installed siropu chat and i like it. Good integration in the forum. Im curious though if there are a few heavy user sites who would like to share their ideas on how the software performs.
