Colours/Design

I have played with the demo version for a couple of days and I like what I have seen. However, I know nothing at all about coding/colour set up and design, so if I go ahead with purchasing the software, would someone be able to help me with colour and design at a reasonable cost?

Depending on what you want, people will probably help you out for free.

Maybe share a little more on what you looking to achieve and we can be more precise.

It depends what your definition of "reasonable cost?" However, we have a lot of custom stylers and a community that is fairly quick about responding to questions, free or paid. ;)

If you didn't need a custom/unique style then there's some very good designs available for under £30 which you can then modify yourself (changing colours is VERY easy and there's a dedicated section here for help on other changes).

If you want something completely designed for you and no one else then you'd be looking at the kind of figure you mentioned.

I am looking to set up a new Family History Forum and would like a design to suit it. I used to run http://www.british-genealogy.com/forums/forum.php and paid a lot of money (about £500 in total) for the design and I couldn't afford that sort of expense again.
Looking at that, if you already have the gradients and background images you should be able to replicate the style yourself fairly easily. Since it is an existing vB style, it may even be cheaper to have it converted over to an XF style (but I'm not sure) than having a one off done.

I am quite sure that you could give this a try yourself and I'm even more sure any issues you run into people will help out, infact I know people will be glad to help with any issues you have as support here is very good. Another great resource is the tip & tricks section and resource manager for all your enhancement needs (you'll get access to those areas if and when you purchase and you associate your license with your forum account.

Another option is to pick out a free theme and adjust/enhance it to your needs to cater for your site but xenforo is very easy to style for and I'm quite sure within days you'll familiarise yourself with the system as it really is an easy system to use to get your customisations implemented.

There's some excellent guides you should really check out. http://xenforo.com/community/threads/how-to-change-almost-anything-quickly-and-easily.33239/ & http://xenforo.com/community/resour...beginners-best-practices-tips-and-tricks.975/
