I have been using ColorPic by Iconico for the longest time. It is a windows based installation. It simply has the right functionality and usefulness. The best feature is that you can use a "chip" to capture ANY color from your computer screen, from ANY program - I hope that makes since.
    • Colors shown in hexadecimal and decimal
    • Option to adjust color after "capture"
    • Re-sizable magnification area
    • Can use arrow key to nudge colorpicker (for hard to capture small objects)
    • Snap to nearest WebSafe color
    • Free, with no advertisements!
Not only has this been useful for me to choose the colors I want, but also to make icons and a couple basic logos.

This video should sum things up:

But I may check those sites out.
