I received a DM while having the forum open on two different devices. I opened it on one device and left the other alone. When I opened the other device the next morning and expanded the DM menu, the timestamp was dated in the future, "Later today at 1:51PM".

The other device never destroyed the page apparently, it just suspended it. I have seen this in other settings like the activity feed too. There is something that is causing the content's timestamp to be compared against a cached page load timestamp.

When I hard refresh on this affected device, the problem goes away so it's something on the client side.

Automated triage: Duplicate

Thank you for reporting this issue. This has the same cause as "XF.DynamicDate may show wrong output". Relative times are worked out in your browser from an estimate of the server's time, taken when the page loads and never checked again. If that estimate goes wrong, for example after the device has been asleep, newer content can show as being in the future until you refresh. We'll track this in that thread.
