API Changes in CKEditor 4

Overview

CKEditor 4 is almost totally compatible with CKEditor 3 (v3), in terms of JavaScript API. Upgrading for those who use it; would generally not be an issue, but still some changes have been done. This may generally impact on custom plugins that used the CKEditor 3 API extensively.

This page lists the most relevant changes and the proper way to port them to CKEditor 4.

Based entirely on the new default theme, this looks like a great upgrade. I'll likely be updating my sites using CKEditor this afternoon.

It's much better that the previous version but it's guaranteed to be riddled bugs. I would give it 6 months for bug fixes before attempting to implement into any software.

Isn't TinyMCE working on a major update to their own editor as well?

TinyMCE is working on 2.0 A few promising features.

cclaerhout has been doing a wonderful job on release updates to that people can use the current version of TinyMCE. I'm hoping he'll release the full editor one of these days (if possible)
