Calling custom settings

I've been struggling for quite a while now when trying to create my own addon and have come to the conclusion, that I will just bombard you with my questions. Second one is about custom settings.

So I have created my own settings page including of course the settings as - for now - a simple textbox. I now want to call the input inside this textbox in my template modification, best would be if I would also be able to check if it is empty or not.

You can check using, e.g. <xen:if is="{$xenOptions.boardTitle}">

Yeah, sorry. I'm using a german version of XenForo, probably should change that for development purpose.

People shall be able to move to Users -> MyAddon -> and set a link in a textbox there. I then want to call this Link inside the template modification but only if the field is filled.

The option check will do that.
However, you can probably do what you're doing with a custom user field.

Already did that. But I want to pack it up for others to use and also include permission settings.
