They should be on placed closer to the top, rather then how vBulletin did them (On the bottom).
I was part of a case study project of forum usage (A friend was designing his own system for college, and part of the project was user usage and trends), and after you get to the last post, most people pay much less attention (Excluding if there is a quick reply).
I also feel that like should be pushed towards the top, or a toolbar like vBulletin used be added for easy use for certain things (Search Threads, Bookmarks, Thread Tools, Options, Select/Deselect all etc).
EDIT: My posts keep getting the spaces stripped when I post in paragraphs.
