Better Blogs [Deleted]

If you purchase the add-on and for any reason are unable to import your vb4 blogs, send a conversation my way and I'll refund your purchase.

Thank you, I appreciate that.

Now that XF 1.2 is gold, one major component I have to get resolved before the upgrade is the blog import. However, I see this isn't 1.2 compatible.

Would I be able to import the vbulletin blogs (assuming the importer works for vb 4) at a later date, once Better Blogs is 1.2 compatible?

Also, does Better Blogs have sitewide or individual blog categories?

You deported Better Blogs me v.1.0.10, but on a web-site for you version 1.0.12. Give to me reference to the updatenew version, please.

Hey, just getting back into testing this. Right now I installed it perfectly on default style XenForo 1.2. However the customization doesn't seem to work at all. When I change the page color, or anything really, nothing happens.

In this particular case....

1) Open the template xfa_blog_PAGE_CONTAINER_normal
2) Look for this line

Code:
<xen:hook name="page_container_breadcrumb_top">

3) Just below, "create" a new hook by adding the following

Code:
<xen:hook name="dre_my_hook_1">

4) Ready. On the widget configuration you can use it

No longer working in Xenforo 1.2 :(

For my needs we really need:

  • Full 1.2 compatibility
  • vBulletin 4 Blogs Importer
  • Redirection script

Really looks like a great product and would love to buy it. I cannot take the risk of it not working ATM. What I have done on my end has been disastrous for search results, as we moved 2 domains into 1 new domain. Still working on resolving traffic woes, but need to get blogs back as soon as possible.

Rigel Kentaurus updated Better Blogs with a new update entry:

1.0.13 Compatibility with XenForo 1.2

This update brings compatibility with XenForo 1.2, there were some little fixes for method signatures, and for MultiBlogs.

Also, the install logic has been tweaked, and the minimum version required is now XenForo 1.2

Existing customers can download the update here:

(Please PM me in the forum if you don't have access, and include either your email or paypal transaction id so I can add you to the downloads section)

New customers can use the Buy Now button on top of this thread for immediate delivery

There needs to be some support for search,

  • In 1.2 with full admin rights in usergroup permissions, you cannot edit another user's blog entries.
  • The importer works great, but there is no way to do regular expressions on the [video tag without dangerously using regex.
  • It would be better if the homepage was listed as blogs/
  • An add-on was released called "blogs.php" which purports to redirect vBulletin Blogs with the 301 scripts, but no .htaccess definitions are available.
  • The clipping of content does not take place on the homepage, and if someone writes a long article, now you have 30 pages of content on one page.
  • The homepage should probably just contain a list of all blogs. In fact it seems impossible to get this listing.
  • There is no RSS.
  • The location of the blogs sitemap may impede on other sitemap add-ons if its actually located in ./sitemap/
  • The lack of integration with search is a major problem.
  • I would personally like to see the ability to convert threads to blogs and blogs to threads. While I like the idea of this system, migrating the content into a thread system would be helpful. (Yes I know there is an importer to go from VB Blogs to threads, but we already did the initial import so we cannot do it again without duplicating content).
Until a lot of these issues are scored out, it was used primarily to get VB4 content out of the blogs tables. I hope these recommendations are taken into consideration.

Hey Mike, thanks for the feedback

1. Did the regular redirect scripts include .htaccess rules? I never used that, I just dropped in blog.php as a replacement for the older one in my vBulletin installation and it works

2. You can go to "Route Filters" in your AdminCP and change the URL from xfa-blog-home to whatever you want. Be it blog-home or blogs

3. The clipping is a bug, I'll fix it in the next update

4. There is a RSS for each blog, after you go into a blog, there is a RSS feed for entries so people can subscribe for future updates for that blog. There is no global RSS.

5. The sitemap AddOn works together with this, and just plugs-in, the work flawlessly, it will generate an sitemap.blog.xml and include that into the sitemap.index.xml

6. There is some search integration, try in XenForo searching for content that is in the blogs, it will find it and display it as a blog results. What has been missing so far is a search section on the search page.

7. Sadly, I am not interested in the blog to threads ability, so as far as being straightforward, that is not coming! But feel free to commission that to another developer for your forum.

I am testing out a Better Blogs to threads importer someone made for me.

I am having several problems...

1. When I try to comment on a blog posting, the 'Post Reply' button grays out while processing.. then restores to normal. nothing happens, nothing is posted. the comment creation screen remains.

2. Creating a new blog... I enter text and then press 'Create' button... the create screeen remains, and is just sitting there.. I can continually press 'Create'. I will have created several duplicate blog entries, but the actual creation screen itself does not close.
