Best way to deal with human spambots?

I recently had a good amount of private information posted all over my forum. I was doxed! I would like to prevent these users from registering on my forum but they use a private vpn or what seems to be a proxy server. I was told by a friend the best way to go about this would be to add a word filter on the forum to block out any, and all of what this person is trying to post all over my forum. This is a personal attack, and i am sure plenty of you have already had something simaler happen to you so this is why i am asking you what would be the best way to go about dealing with this so i can sleep.

I hope i posted this in the correct forum. My head is a mess right now. >.>

I got lucky, and was able to get in touch with the person responsible for this spam but i will be looking into this. Thanks jake.
