XF 1.2 Best way to customize default theme colors?

I want to stick with the default theme since it seems to be supported the best and now that it's responsive it's pretty awesome...only thing is I want to customize the colors abit.

I was wondering what's the best way for me to go about doing this so that I don't actually mess around with the default theme and would be easy to update in the future as well?

Just change the colours in the palette - they can always be reverted back to the default if you make a mistake.
