Best, simplest Anti-spam tool I have found

Don't worry too much, tin foil is pretty cheap ;)

I don't know ... entrusting your anti-spam to a consulting company that specialises in digital marketing and social media penetration for businesses and corporations.
Smells a lot like entrusting the honey pot under the care of the bear to me.
If you're that worried, you really shouldn't have internet. ISP's (Especially those that offer cable services) all track and sell their customers browsing habits to encourage targeted advertising.

Unless you're chaining VPN's or anonymous proxies, there really isn't anyway for you to avoid bieng tracked in some method or another.

Just for reference, we're primarily a web development consultancy. My day job is working within businesses helping them to improve their development teams and so on, when I'm not doing that there's also small business web site development. We do a bit of social strategy, SEO guidance and so on, but only because it is something we get asked for. We certainly don't specialise in digital marketing, or social media, though.

The Spam Service is more of a personal project of mine, I'm interested in forums and such like (I've been using and running them for over 10 years, and as Kim said, I used to work for IPS.) I'm also working on setting up ForumCloud, hosting specially designed for forums. However, as the spam service is using Block 8 technology, time and servers, it made sense to make it a service from the company. :)

Hope that clears things up a bit.

Also, more appropriately, and more importantly, thank you so much Kim for your feedback! :D

I'm really pleased it is working out for you so far. I'm sure you won't mind me sharing the fact that the service has, thus far (in two days, right?) blocked 500+ spammers from your site.

Very welcome good sir!

LOL I can believe that given I have had to turn off registrations for the last 4 months, as prior to that, I was getting that many through who were posting the ridiculous spam bollux, which was a huge job to clean up, and ours is a very small site, but they do love to target anywhere with movie reviews and so on!!!

I've have/still have registrations switched off at my site for near on 10-11 months due to the spam. It was getting ridiculously that bad I really had no choice, and cleaning it up was so time consuming I was spending the majority of my time cleaning up rather than adding what is important, content. So any threads that can somehow eliminate that is always welcomed in my book so thanks again for the feedback and creating this thread with your experience using Dans Service.

I'm glad to hear Kim found something that's working for her. :) I'll have to try this in few minutes here and see how it works over next few days... :) Thanks Kim for your feedback about it, and thanks to Dan for creating/doing it... :) ;)

Will do! :) Since I have one anti-spam resource installed currently, I'll have to disable that one and use this for a week straight, to know / get idea of it's success, then do a review post after trying it. I'm always game for trying and reviewing new things. :)

I have everything else Disabled ...Xenutiles plus Question n Answers is holding pretty good so far .... Haven't seen no spammers on board .

Just thought I'd follow up on this topic and see how anyone who has installed this is getting on?

Since Kim posted this topic last week, we've blocked just over 10,000 spam registrations from XenForo-based forums. :)

Well, I haven't had it installed for the whole WEEK's time frame I was going to have it running alone (- no other anti-spam resources running), but it's nearing half way mark, and had ZERO spammers sign up. *knock on wood* lol. So, so far, so good here! :D

Working brilliantly for me still Dan! :)

What if I'm using 4 domain for a single forum?
So registration on other domain will not work, due to the license?

Based on the release of 1.1.4, I'm interested as to whether people think it would be worth shutting down the Block 8 Spam Service.

1.1.4 improves Xenforo's built in spam prevention, and integrates with DNS blacklists, which may prove enough to block the majority of spammers.

I'm not going to just turn the service off now, but I'd be interested to hear opinions. :)

I would like to see you continue it for a while at least, until we can be sure the built in anti-spam actually works as yours has been brilliant for me!

But I understand if it costs you to offer the service, or if it takes up time, that you would want to EOL it.

Up to you of course :)

Whatever you decide, I thank you again for the brilliant offering, it saved me a huge amount of headache and annoyance!!!
