Best redirect for SEO purposes?

Hi all

I have installed Xenforo in a subdirectory with CTA Featured Threads acting as a home page.

When I shut down vbulletin I want to redirect all traffic from my domain www.abc.com to /community, what is the best method to use that won't impact on SEO? Or doesn't it matter?

I've seen htaccess rewrite; an index.php in root to redirect; or the redirect option in cpanel?

Thanks.

Do you plan to keep XF in the directory?
Are you intending to have something else installed in the root?
Note that typical add-on home pages can't work outside the directory XenForo is installed in, so the home page would be domain.com/community as opposed to just domain.com.

Essentially though you just use the redirect scripts which are available, although if you have retained IDs, you can get away with standard rewrites in .htaccess.

I don't know, I've been going back and forth trying to decide what to do for a few days now. I kind of want to keep my vb active for a while as there are a lot of custom pages that I need to move across. Although I suppose that could be easily done without having vb running.

Besides a home page, no.
