Been away for a few years

feedback is a gift

id say go look at vb6 .. that looks new and fresh to me someone who has not looked at a forum in a few years but was in the forum game back before xenforo was a thing.

so you say its window dressing… well 99% of visitors don’t care how its programmed.

in order to remain relevant the powers to be at xenforo need to start thinking like the customers and not like the architects.

You need to articulate what it is you are expecting in future releases instead of just saying "make it better/different".
My only wish is to be pleasantly surprised by XF3 and that should be enough for you to do your job... As far as I know you have not launched a major consultation to find out what your customers expected from the next version... So don't ask me to try to corner me.

And even if I told you what I expected from XF 3, to what extent would that be taken into account? Do you want us to count together the number of popular suggestions that you really don't care about?

It's up to you to satisfy us, not the opposite. Unless the company/customer relationship has changed?

Okay, now I'm waiting for the cavalry to come to your rescue...

Yes.

Drag and drop possibilities would be much welcome. Especially since we're in 2024 (maybe 2025 for XF3) and majority of the softwares have a drag and drop feature. WordPress, Invision Community to name a few.

Just based on what i have seen today. I do not see where any forum software has stepped up to spearhead the path forward into the future. xenforo seems to be ignoring the “voice of the customer” which is red flag 101.

“vb6 looks sweet” is about all i'm sure of.

Forums need to do what facebook can’t.

I am failing to see any reason to start a community in 2024 on any topic other than a topic not allowed on facebook. That was my last hoorah a facebook forbidden topic .. flew too close to the sun on that one. it was a success but at a cost.

I have a new passion that i am considering starting a community on … it can be easily monetized (and is on the up and up) but i would probably be banned from the facebook group for spamming to try to push membership. and i know the grind of trying to get a forum going by normal
means such as self populated content and seo

Curious, with what you now know, I assume you'd use vBulletin. Why if I may ask?

I have had communities on xenforo, vb3, vb4 and IPB and even some others like wordpress forum add on and some old .asp ones lol

www.dieselbombers.com is my biggest success it was purchased by Internet Brands its still on vb3 it had arcade, casino and everything and was just awesome.

www.mymilitia.com is on IPB which to me is a content management system first and a forum second. it is huge site HUGE. I got hit with cancel culture and directly and personally doxed .. we are talking phone calls from dead relatives and contact from FBI. A lot of lies were spread and at such magnitude i gave the site away for free and just ran away.

I have tried a few other IPB sites and was unable to keep them active no matter what i did because all the clientele were deep rooted on facebook..

Now i'm really into something new and it does not have a forum online.. it does have facebook groups so i debating to make a go or not.

I was one of the first members here on xenforo and i'm happy to see it still going, but based on what i have seen just today its sort of an “eek” factor.

A quick search for xenforo 3 and you can see you will find more questions then you do answers.

vb6 is beautiful, but my personal professional career is going to be python based I know 100% thats where im going like it or not. so if i learn python in my personal life it will benefit me professionally

In a professional manner excel is overworked often doing things its not meant to and VBA is way beyond its capabilities.. sharepoint has taken over and python and tableau is where everything that matters will live.

So i only know if i start anew …

1. it will not be cloud hosted as i want control
2. the site would need to function “mobile first” in browser without an app
3. Push notifications without 3rd party addon/subscription service
4. No App… TAPATALK or anything similar
5. Google must love the code and prioritize search results

I challenge anyone to send these 2 links to a family or friend

"Cancel culture": https://www.wired.com/story/far-right-extremist-allegedly-plotted-blow-up-amazon-data-centers/

May not be the exact incident that lead to you leaving, but that is less cancel culture and getting strays for your community.

A lot of us are too close to the trees to see the forest.
From a pure style standpoint, it looks like vB is outdated using Flat UI, while you can see elements of Flat UI 2.0 in XF.
