Attachment Gallery to facilitate reposts

I would really like it if, when I make a new post on the forum, I could choose from the media that has already been uploaded so that I don't have to upload a new file again. This will save disk space, and other users can use the same image and repost it on the forum, eliminating the need to upload it again and again. We have the URL option, but it's a lot more work than simply being able to select the image from a small gallery of attached images from other posts.

My suggestion is that Xenforo could have this option similar to what Wordpress does. With the images already on our hosting, we would have less work in having to optimize the image before uploading too.

A good example is that I made a post on a node restricted to the public. So I wanted to take some of the images that were already there and reuse them in a new post.

The problem with reusing them is that I have to keep getting the URL of each of the images. I just wanted to select what has already been uploaded in an easy way. I don't know if it would be better to have an "Attachment Gallery" button or add this functionality within the Insert Image button. But here's my suggestion. It would make it much easier to avoid having multiple duplicate images uploaded to the server.

That's already possible:

That certainly does make sense for WordPress which is primarily intended for editorial content where the editors know (well, at least they should) what they are doing and might actually reuse images.
It most certainly wouldn't work for a forum that is primarily intended for user generated content as users usually would'nt care to use such a feature.

If you main concersn is so conserve disk space I'd look at deduplication at FS or block layer, there are plenty of options to do that.

Ah, so what I asked for in my suggestion is already a function of XFMG? I didn't know. Well, then I think the suggestion can be disregarded.

It somewhat depends on what your suggestion is about.

You initially wrote:

Based on term media I assumed you were talking about media uploaded to XFMG.

A feature to select an image or video from arbitrary existing attachments currently does not exist in XenForo, but as pointed out by Paul XFMG has a feature to embed existing media from XFMG into posts (though that could be a lot more powerful).

That's already possible:

The idea is nice and it would be helpful but the implementation is bad.

First of all you can't browse your media properly. You get a pop-up window with thumbnails, which is fine but instead of a slider to quickly scroll through your images there's just a "more" button. You click it and oh golly, 15 new thumbnails are added to the list. Imagine if you have a couple of thousands of images in the gallery!

Secondly, and worse, you end up with an image that is displayed half the size it should be because it is grabbing the gallery BBcode and not the image BBcode. And this is really terrible. Unless there is a way to change this. I haven't found it but maybe there is.

Media Galley has been ignored for a very long time. At this point it should be a free add-on.

I really like the Media Gallery but it is also aggravating because it's clumsy and lacks functionality that I think should be there. I started a thread two weeks ago but no replies. I started another one today (not for the same issue).

I've posted a number over the past few years and nothing. It functions, I've learned to deal with it.

Sure. I do too.

I was hoping though that maybe there was an add-on I wasn't aware of, or someone had a bit of code I could add to a template, I don't know, something, anything. 🙂
