Just curious about something, why didn't you consider setting up an "article forum" and have permissions to moderate all new threads submitted.

That's going to be part of the solution.

The articles require approval but the comments will not.

Our plan is to create a moderated forum for submission and the user will select the appropriate category with the using the thread prefix.

Once the article has been approved it will be moved to the appropriate forum where users can comment (but new threads cannot be created).

We have a couple of ideas we are working on that will help us facilitate the requirement that edited articles must be re-approved as well but nothing more than testing that at the moment.
