Anyone here do logos? Need a better logo for my forum

I'd imagined a logo with a smart dressed man, something like this (with associated wording worked into it):

Or maybe just the bloke in the middle?

Someone came up with this:

I dug the image in the V, but the font and colors were pretty bad.

Waiting for some people to like my posts on DigitalPoint to do a contest there. Also, gonna try out LogoHulk, Freelancer, and Hatchwise.

When ever I need something professionally done that's out of my skillset, I always use designContest.com - they have freelance designers battling it out for your dosh. That way you get a wide range of selections, but only have to pay for the winning entry and you decide on your budget.

Wanted to give this an update in case anyone was interested:

Freelancer has been an absolute disaster. The quality of the submissions have been terrible.

Hatchwise has been a similar disappointment.

Haven't gotten three likes on a post so I can't post on digitalpoint yet.

LogoHulk was great. His designs are pretty damn good for only $30-40. I'd recommend him. Sadly, he couldn't seem to come up with something for me. But they've definitely been the best submissions so far.

Am going to sign up for Fiver.

So far, the cheap angle hasn't been working. Not that I expected much, but this is ridiculous.

Trying to learn to do it yourself (when you are graphically challenged) is "fun". I finally came up with some that are "sorta" ok for my site (which is called Just Say Apple). I don't know if I'm going to keep them or not, but of all the attempts I've made so far they have turned out the best (which ain't saying much :p).

To be honest, I've got enough on my plate without attempting to upgrade my stick-figure drawing skills. This is best left to the professionals. Or, the amateurs who fill these 'design' contest sites.

Your skills don't need to be good at all. You just need to play around with ideals on paper. Make something showing what you have in mind then hand that to someone with some skill and let them go to work. Thats what I did. I made a few different logo ideas while waiting to get my truck loaded. Then took pictures and added it to my forum and others. I also asked for friends opinions. Then I send the winning design to a designer on Fiverr and then my sketch came to life.

You might find people that are good but are not going in the same direction as you when trying to come up with designs for you. If you can show them what you want then it makes it easier for them. I had a basic idea what I might want for a business card for my forum. I explained that to someone on Fiverr and he used my idea and expanded on that. Turned out better then I had thought it would.

Not sure it's been suggested but @Sheldon is very good designing logos. You might want to give him a shot if nobody has recommended him yet.
