I am looking for a way for users to decide themselves whether they want to participate in a forum node, and if not, they can "turn it off" similar to the ignore function used with other members.
I know you can set up custom user groups to give custom node permissions, and you can move members into those groups to give or remove node permissions... but is there any way for users to do it themselves?
For example, in a certain forum we are considering adding a node to discuss a somewhat heated topic. Some people don't want to have anything to do with the conversation. Is there any way to allow them to "opt out" at which point they don't see the any of the posts and can't view the forum node?
