Any news about Xenforo 3.0, can we expect modern forum?

Hello. For half a year, I have been looking for a modern forum system to start an anime/manga site with various features. For example, a video system for watching movies/episodes, a way to add manga/anime as pages with information about them, topics with posters, etc. I saw that all of this is possible with Invision Community.

I waited to see version 5, but it turned out that the self-hosted platform is extremely expensive and has functionality limits. They also changed the way we acquire add-ons, significantly restricting options, and almost no themes exist for their latest version.

On the other hand, XenForo seems like a better alternative in terms of user base and price, but the forum and themes, in general, look like they’re from the early 2000s. I understand that some may find this nostalgic, but it looks incredibly outdated and is not visually appealing.

That’s why I’m wondering what exactly to expect with version 3.0. Can we anticipate a modern interface similar to Invision Community? I really don't want to go to invision as they may drop self-hosted in next version, as they aim for big comapanies, not common users now.

Agreed.

XF isn’t outdated forum software.

Forum software itself is outdated.

The end results are quite similar.

Xenforo remains forum only software. If it doesn’t migrate to community software it’ll never reach its full potential
You've ignored everything else I've said and taken what I said out of context.

Anyway, what do you mean by migrate to community software? It's already being advertised as such right on the home page.

What is community software then?
It always about content. Structured content.
Xenforo lacks content types that improve content over time.

Useful pages is a bare minimum.

Image only posting is basically a given.

I'd add many other content types MYSELF.

As others have suggested a FEED that people find useful when they come back is important. To accomplish this you need to track user habits to give them the content they want.

....
Another way to determine if xenforo was community sofware ... is xenforo could DogFood.
ie.
they would not need to rely on third party software or software they made, but don't sell as a part of Xenforo.

I'm positive the community could make alot better Help documents than Xenforo itself can make.

The what's new should show all content in one tab and not have multiple tabs for different content.
Although they could maybe add some more filters to accomplish this, I don't think most people see any pressing need to add profile posts and feeds to the same page. What's left after that that needs to be consolidated?

The entire reason profile posts are not fully utilized is they get lost (are not bumped) and are in a widget. Merging them into a proper feed would increase discovery and activity. A profile post is the closest thing to a post on social media and it's buried in XF, so deemed something that is not useful or archaic when in fact it is the opposite. Imagine people blogging from their own page or creating personal threads that don't need to be on the forum but they appear in the feed. I'm all for profile post/feed improvements.

Question is, why would you not want to consolidate it all in one place? Including profile posts? What is the point of not including them?

Because not everyone is looking for the same content, and displaying everything at once on one page is just requiring people to scroll down the page more - or choose a filter, which is in fact no quicker than clicking a tab. Not that I'm saying it shouldn't be an option - I would like the option to have all the same choices with just New threads that you get with New posts - just saying that it might not be as great for everyone as you're making it out to be. This seems to be more an aesthetic preference rather than something that significantly benefits most users in a practical way.

I think Themehouse/Audentio almost got it right with their Feeds add-on, but unfortunately, they didn't quite execute it successfully, IMO. If the activity block looked something like this, where clicking on the checkbox updated the feed without requiring a refresh or pressing a button, it would have been much better. Instead, if memory serves me right, they limited the activity feed to specific content types: post, profile post, and thread.

And, I think their "card view" layout needed a better design to work with different thread types and themes.

Similarly, if @Painbaker Forum Content List Tabs had a "filter by" feature and real-time updating, that would also be a viable option.

Hopefully, XF3 will get it right if they implement a modern activity feed.

Yeah, I actually really liked that Audentio addon myself, but for some reason couldn't get it working again after the last XF update, even though the addon had been updated. Gonna have to take another jab at it one day soon.

Looking for a modern forum system.
Have you looked into vBulletin? (I might be joking)
Written almost FIVE years ago, but resonates loudly still today. Beautifully written. (y)(y)(y)
The forum is what you want to be. It could become even video system. We, the young ones, in our 30s, demand modernization!
Exactly, with a bit of styling and some css it'll look Young and sick.
