Any Glaring Issue For vB Conversion?

Hi Everyone.

We are just about ready to commit to Xenforo. We have been running a vB forum since 2003 and are currently at Ver. 3.8.8 and PHP ver. 5.4

I recently removed VBadvanced (all traces I believe) and other mods are very minimal other than the style.

OTHER than the requirement to run higher versions of PHP, etc., is there anything glaring about the forum(s) structure that would cause concerns? That is, vis-a-vis XF node categories, forums, children, siblings? Is there any restructing I should do before conversion?

This is a a clone I made recently of the production board. HERE

Thanks in advance. Regards....... Frank

Same here, the issue I had from vBulletin to XenForo was generally groups & permissions. A lot of things can be done without the use of groups, so it just changed how things worked, and we needed to carefully plot out all the changes.

Export lists of which users were in which groups to replicate the same access on XenForo.

But really, it wasn't hard. Just more tedious, but well worth the outcome.

You can set up a test board, but under XF's license you have to remove it from public view, so password secure it via CPanel.

I kept our vB forum up for secured private access, so we can always reference back data/info as needed.

I just did backup of site, didn't bother with test versions as i could always re-install the backup.

I just installed Xenforo to separate directory then did import. Imported from DragonByte Gallery to Sonnb Gallery to Xenforo's Gallery and all worked ok. Some customs stuff i did in vBulletin was hard to replicate as PHP coding seems to have changed quite a bit since i did some work on the vBulletin site. :) Once i was sure everything was working moved it to the root directory, installed the re-direct addon and seems to be working great.

Mr L, what was the issue? Didn't convert and you had to start over? Or?
For me they worked but with a few anomalies, and once I looked into it, it was easier to start again as the system is so different

Good idea to read this:
