My site went offline moments ago with this error:

Vijay, 6 or 11 hops doesn't make that huge a difference unless you are dealing with real time data update. (Something like the stock markets perhaps). I am from India and sadly I am yet to find a competent host in India. My sites are hosted with softlayer but a dedicated host may not suit your budget at this time.

Among the larger players, liquidweb is a good company. Among the smaller ones, crocweb, MDD Hosting is a very nice company with universally positive reviews. If I were in your position I would have chosen crocweb. No. of hops doesn't make too big a difference, what is important is how fast your site renders to your visitor. Optimize your site, smush images, use caching, use a static domain, perhaps a cdn if one has an India node, etc...
