After-save Hook

Is there anything like an after-save hook for the data writer? I want to insert another record into table xf_abcdef with the one field being the thread_id of a thread that was just created, but I cannot find any tutorials with instructions on how to do this. I would imagine the XFCP proxy system is a way to accomplish this, but that would involve copying and pasting the entire actionAddThread method then adding my own code which is not a very smart thing to do. Any ideas?
