XF 2.2 Advertising and User Group permissions

I use User Account upgrades and as part of their perks are no ads displayed. On each ad position I have those special groups exclude but they are still seeing ads. This method work for a quite a while but now it isn't.

I am wondering if it's the way account upgrades are handled, or if something changed in the latest XF update. When you buy an account upgrade It adds the new group as an additional group but keeps the primary group as Registered. Since Registered user are shown ads they see ads, even though the secondary group shouldn't?

Use the User is NOT a member of any of the selected user groups option to prevent ads being shown to specific groups.
