The 'Please enter a value using X characters or fewer.' is rather ambiguous, especially on pages where multiple items are present.

I suggest a more specific error that is able to be defined in the entity structure like there is for the 'required' error. Especially since you can't throw the error from the pre-save function. (or I haven't found a way to do it)

While the idea is still valid, I can set the maxlength value for some inputs in templates.
