XF 1.3 Add color to banners

What is the best way to add color to my banners? Just some CSS? Or, the add-ons available?

EDIT: Is there any way to add color to the already existing banners? For example in the screenshot I provided if you notice Top Poster. I already have that banner just wish to add background color (and change text color if applicable)
