XF 1.4 Ad inside fake node container on forum list?

I'd like to put a responsive ad at the top of each category, in a container that looks like the standard node container. What's the best way to do this?

You will need to add the relevant HTML and CSS as a wrapper for the ad.

So I make it look like a node, then edit the template to place it between the category listing and the node display?

Would it be better/easier to create another node, then change the look of that particular node?

Don't create a node - just wrap the ad content in the relevant HTML and CSS.
