Hello.

It would be good to have a possibility to get a short version of a permalink to content by clicking something for example.

The reason is quite simple. In all foreign languages, that don't use latin alphabet, current permalink format looks very disgusting to the eye:

HTML:
http://example.com/forum/threads/hide-%D1%81%D0%BA%D1%80%D1%8B%D1%82%D0%B8%D0%B5-%D1%81%D0%BE%D0%B4%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%B6%D0%B8%D0%BC%D0%BE%D0%B3%D0%BE-%D0%BE%D1%82-%D0%BF%D0%BE%D0%BB%D1%8C%D0%B7%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B0%D1%82%D0%B5%D0%BB%D0%B5%D0%B9.986/unread
- it's russian version.

It is very long, very unclear and boring. It is not good for insterting into emails, sending by IM and all other purposes. Long version is good mostly for search engines. For humans it is very inconvenient most of the time.

HTML:
http://example.com/forum/threads/986/unread
is much better. Can we have a button or a link or whatever else to be able to quickly copy short version to buffer?

May be even post permalinks could be short by default since they don't have much value for search engines.

Surely the domain.xyz/(xfroot)/posts/postID link would satisfy? You can just change the template to use that method instead of the current method, but you may suffer from duplicate content unless you make a robots.txt and disallow access to /posts/.

You can link directly to a thread by using the thread ID, and a post by using the post ID.

Well, I can make whatever links I want with my hands. But when you do this at least some times, it becomes boring.

I think he wants an additional link for each post, without the thread title in the URL.
Exactly.

How to refer to the thread in total with this method?
