A way to insert symbols

I'd like to suggest some sort of "symbol" button be added that would make it easy to insert various symbols, such as the degree symbol (°), without having to rely on the ASCII codes (0176 for degree).

Most of the Office apps (Word, Excel, Outlook) have an "Insert" tab which brings up the entire ASCII character set. Personally, I find that tedious as I have to search many pages for the symbol want. I'd suggest a much smaller set with only those symbols most frequently used.

Given that we know the editor is changing in 3.0, I would say it is unlikely to be addressed until then or later. I haven't seen the need myself but also rarely use the Insert Symbol in Office, too.

Froala (the current editor) has this option / extension ability but it is just turned off. It is called the "Special Characters Plugin". Tiptap (the upcoming editor in XenForo 3.0+) has similar extensions available that offer html characters and symbol support. Tiptap is open source so I do not see why XenForo would lock it down and limit options / extensions like they did for Froala ...time will tell.

You can add the custom options via a js edit for froala - but yeah it would be nice if the ACP showed all the extensibility of the editor and you just selected what you wanted displayed.
