4chan is a Forum or a Chat or what?

There is no minifying of ego at all; look at half of the posters, they act even worse because they -are- anonymous.
 
in terms of simplicity (or at least "simple" look of it), I would compare it with Craigslist and Plentyoffish.
So somehow those kind of "simple" and "easy to use" websites have quite a huge following.
I am not talking about FB or Twitter as I do not like those 2 and find them rather complicated to use.

I am wondering how XF can be made any simpler? Just removing the sign-up-requirement (which is actually possible already) or any other things ?

I see my XF-users (at my XF-website) already struggling with the wording "thread" and "avatar", so I am wondering what else could be made simpler with an XF-installation.
I am also seeing my users merely just using their Profile-pages to talk with each other and updating their own "status" rather than discussing in the Forums or posting any new threads.

I am thinking of having a more simpler XF-Forum (for my own install), but would be interested in your ideas of how to make it "simpler" or anything else you can think of ?
 
Erich I still think you'er missing the point :) That crazy niche is called 4chan
An example to get 4chan you don't go to 10chan :D or some xenforo site

Plus would you really want to be known as the trash of the internets :confused:
 
well, I actually do not want to copy 4chan or anthing else, I am talking about a different "niche" but the need of making XF even simpler.

Nah, the 'warrers' on Battle.net are much worse than WoW forums. If you don't know what that is, its where they use a floodbot or loadbot (Floodbots join and leave channels, spamming messages, faster than most bot/operators can ban, while loadboats fill the channel with bots, and spam the channel, and continually joins new accounts as others get banned). Basically the majority of people who did this were wannabe script kiddies, who would either resort to this, or they would try and get the script kiddies to attempt to hack people, who would than try and attempt to get the hackers (Not many of them) to hack whoever they had an issue with.

Having run a site for making bots for Battle.net, I can honestly say I do not miss the drama that went along with that community, and was glad when I finally left (I gave away the vBulletin license just so the transition would be faster). Having dealt with a DDoS attack every other day, or people attempting to keylog/trojan users every so often, or when actual hackers tried to take over the site (Only happened once, and that was because one of the administrators used the same password on a competing site, and they weren't able to do anything before we locked them out of the site while we fixed the issue).

That and a lot of 4chan /b/tards hang out on Battle.net still.
 
I have very mixed feelings about 4chan. On the one hand I admire the wild west feel of it, but it tends to be a haven for those who in the past had to keep their hidden sides of misogyny, racism and sociopathic feelings locked away lest they be reviled. Now the internet has allowed these oft-times socially reprehensible people to feel that their skewed world views and anti-social adolescent rants are valid - which they frequently are not. The fact that they engage in life-ruining events just "for the lulz" is an example of how the evil of 4chan could and should be curtailed.

Now, having said THAT, the things that Anonymous is doing in the name of internet superheroism is downright breathtaking and right. Their attacks on WBC, BOA and Scientology are epic and just plain deserved. They tracked down the soldier who was throwing puppies off a cliff, they IDed the lady who chucked the cat into a bin. 4chan does good things and could be a powerful force - but only if they grow up and disavow some of the more socially destructive of their members.
 
Not for me. My girlfriend likes 4chan and I just... don't understand any of it. As long as she uses her own computer to browse it and not mine, it's fine. xD

'acting worse' is not a result of ego, it is the result of anonymity- and the result of peer-sanctioning being removed. one can say things without having to answer for it forevermore.
that has no relation to ego.

Yet ego is the result of anonymity, which causes many people to act worse. I'm not saying everyone is like that, but many are, and many of them are why 4chan has such a bad name.

I use to hang around 4chan when it first started, however, when it started leaning the directio it has gone now, many of the older people left, and it has been overrun by /b/tards who hide behind the anonymity to act out, and try and do what they wish, avoiding consequences as they can.

Not much of what goes on at 4chan would be successful in a forum. 4chan has become its own niche, and is a micro-culture of the Internet now. An example of this is the common use of many meme's that originated there, or famous events that featured 4chans actions.

ego cannot really exist without some sort of identity to associate itself with...
and thats all i will say on this topic.
 
Please note that the majority, if not the entirety of 4Chan is NOT SAFE FOR WORK, if your boss catches you looking at a web site which is as notorious as 4Chan for spammers, porn, ddos attacks and more (just by their reputation, your boss could never have visited but will have heard of it), you're gonna get pulled up on it.
