2.x to 3.0, will this be a paid transition if we still have an active licence

I was a customer years back, using xenforo 1.x
When we moved over to 2.0, you kind of lost me. All of the work I had done for 1.x was lost

Things like plugin dev, and customisations would needed to have been re-done
I also had other things related to work that I had to do, which took over.

This time around, I've just bought a licence (Jan 2025)

So, I don't mind starting to get familiar with plugins again, and re-developing (I have a few plugins I have in mind I need to dev for myself, but I know they will be useful for others)


So
i) Does the upgrade to from 2.x to 3.x come as part of my active licence for 2.x (I think it will, since upgrades are part of on going support for an active license)
ii) Will most of the plugins work from 2.3.x to 3.x (I suspect not, since I've seen there is a major overhall for templates, that's fine and to be expected)


Oh and hello to anyone that remembers me, I see a few xenforo familiar faces (not just the devs/mods)

It's supposed to be XF 2.3 but with a new theme, so I figure most addons will still work but not any 2.3 theme itself.

Thread 'XF 3 General Information & Discussion'

To avoid the same issue we always have prior to a new first or second point release, this thread will serve as the main place for all discussion related to XF3.

For 2.3 I think we were well into double figures for threads discussing it, so all other threads will be closed and pointed to this one.
Try and keep off topic and non relevant posts to a minimum to avoid them being moved to another thread, or deleted.


What is XF3?
XF3 will primarily be 2.3 with a new style.

Most likely not because 2.4 is scheduled for 2H2025, and I highly doubt they'll push a Release Candidate of XF 3 by Jan 25, 2026. You will likely have to renew your license to get XF 3, but 2.4 (and hopefully all the bugs worked out) should be included in your new 2.3 1-year license, but it's not promised as anything could happen... A stable release of 2.4 could even be delayed beyond January 2026, so, that might not even be included.

As you can see, 3.0 or 2.4 was supposed to be some time in 2024, but that has lapsed. So, don't expect it to be included, and be prepared to upgrade your license to get either 2.4 or 3.0.
