195$ is a brazen, overpriced pricepoint for xenforo

A little late to the thread but I don't think it's overpriced at all. The fact that it comes with a year of updates but your not set back by some wack subscription model but have a version you can keep and never pay a cent again if you didn't want to
Exactly. There is no necessity to upgrade after a year and if you don’t need to do that think of the cost savings over an annual sub. When you consider this the xenForo price can be quite versatile.

You could buy a licence for $195 and renew very year at 60. Cost for 10 years = £73.50 a year. If you decide you don't need to update every year and instead update every other year, it's $43.50 Not what I call brazen

IMO, Xenforo is far too cheap. I'm surprised they haven't gone for a full subscription model for self hosted yet. Has to be worth at least 25 quid a month.
So, basically, you think they should almost double the cost of the full license, then make us pay that every year? Because, right now, I could buy a brand new license every year for much less than 25 quid/month. That'd be an insane price hike that would almost certainly cost a TON of customers.

Regular reminder that we have no active plans to change the self hosted license model.

£23.50 ?

£23.50 ?
Yeah, for me that'd be about $30/month, which comes out to $360/year. A new license costs me $175. Even if I payed full price of $195, still much cheaper than $30/month.

Kind of a moot point, anyways, considering Chris confirmed they're not considering any changes and, even if they were, this is almost certainly not what they'd settle on.

Stop panicking over it.

Stop panicking over it.
You say that but it is a legitimate concern. Other platforms do have this sort of deal going on where letting the licence lapse can be grounds for losing it entirely.

Do we think XF is going there? Unlikely, but never say never.

Who's panicking? Certainly not me! I couldn't care less what they do because it's not something I can control. If the time comes that they do decide a price increase is necessary, I'll evaluate my options, and do whatever I think is best for my site(s) at that time, just like I did for the last price increase. Right now, I'm not the slightest bit concerned about a price hike. I'm just giving my input on a suggestion that someone else made.

Unrelated to this, specifically, but could you do me a favor and just add me back to your ignore list, please? K, thanks.

You are panicking.
You need to calm down.

Calm your farm.
Whilst we wait on the xf staff to bring us the new editor you should be discussing this with your members.

Why? How often I choose, or not, to renew the licence should not be the concern of my members as long as the site is functioning correctly and does everything we want it to do.

My licence lapsed earlier this week. I currently see no immediate need to renew it. I don’t need to renew it until 2.4 comes out.

You're too poor. Khoros won't even show their website to you 😂

Khoros, Salesforce Communities, and others are at a whole other level of enterprise pricing.

This is an interesting point in relation to the original post.

XF clients can skip renewals, which will bring down your renewal cost. Renew every other year, and your annual renewal cost comes down to $100. Renew every four years, and your annual renewal cost comes down to $50.

XF can be a very cost efficient forum software accessible to virtually everyone if you plan a little and want to skip renewals.

but in the end, you're still a troll. You certainly aren't here to contribute anything positive to the community.
maybe you should review post history before opening mouth and inserting foot?
for stuff i can help with i do.
but i have not been using xenforo for years and years.

Now you're just being silly. Subscription for self-hosted would kill XF. I would shift near immediately if any forum platform did that.
i could see where it might be nice for those that can not save the money to pay a one time a year renewal.
but it would be a head ache to keep up with for xenforo i am sure.
