XF 1.4 1.4.5 Following upgrade, can't display avatars

After I ran the upgrade for 1.4.5, I can't see any of my avatars nor am I able to upload new ones. I've gone through the normal process for adding an avatar and I get the message telling me that it uploaded successfully, but the new avatar doesn't show afterward.

It's a permissions issue:

You don't have permission to access /forums/data/avatars/l/0/2.jpg on this server.

Check the permissions and ownership of the data and internal_date directories.

In the future be sure to download the upgrade package which is missing /data and /internal_data. That will ensure that you don't possibly overwrite those directories or flip their permissions during the upgrade.
