XenCustomize Custom Field Sorter makes managing large choice-based custom thread and user fields much easier.

XenForo already lets administrators manually drag possible choices into the desired order. This works well for smaller fields, but managing dozens or even hundreds of choices can quickly become time-consuming.

Custom Field Sorter adds convenient sorting controls directly to XenForo's existing Possible choices interface, letting you organize the complete list in seconds while keeping XenForo's normal drag-and-drop functionality available.

The resulting order is saved as the custom field's actual choice order, so the same order is automatically used wherever XenForo displays those choices, including thread forms and user registration/account forms where the field is enabled.

Sorting Options​

Custom Field Sorter adds sorting controls directly above XenForo's existing Possible choices list.

Available options include:

• Display order

Display Order​

Use XenForo's normal manually arranged choice order.

This keeps the standard XenForo behavior available whenever a field needs a custom order instead of automatic sorting.

Alphabetical Sorting​

Sort choices using their displayed text:

• Alphabetical (A-Z) — ascending alphabetical order
• Alphabetical (Z-A) — descending alphabetical order

This is especially useful for long lists containing products, locations, categories, names, brands, or other choices that members need to scan quickly.

Choice Value Sorting​

Custom field choices contain both an internal value and the text displayed to users.

Custom Field Sorter can sort using the internal choice value instead:

• Choice value (A-Z)
• Choice value (Z-A)

This provides additional flexibility when your internal values follow an ordering scheme different from the visible choice labels.

Reverse Current Order​

Need to flip an existing list?

Reverse current order immediately reverses the choices as they are currently arranged without requiring you to manually move them one by one.

Native Drag-and-Drop Still Works​

Custom Field Sorter does not replace XenForo's existing choice management.

After applying any sorting option, you can continue using XenForo's normal drag handles to manually adjust individual choices.

For example, you can:

• Sort 100+ choices alphabetically
• Move an Other choice to the bottom
• Keep a commonly used choice at the top
• Make any other manual adjustment before saving

This gives you the speed of automatic sorting without losing XenForo's normal manual control.

One Saved Order Everywhere​

Custom Field Sorter works with XenForo's actual custom field choice order.

When you apply a sort and save the custom field, the newly arranged choices become the field's saved display order.

That means you do not need separate sorting settings for the Admin CP and public side.

The saved order is reflected wherever XenForo uses those choices, including the relevant public thread creation/editing forms and user registration/account forms where the field is enabled.

This also keeps the implementation lightweight and avoids maintaining a separate competing choice order.

Automatic Sort Detection​

When you return to edit an existing custom thread or user field, Custom Field Sorter examines its current saved choices and automatically recognizes compatible ordering.

For example, a field already arranged alphabetically from A-Z will show Alphabetical (A-Z).

Supported detection includes:

• Alphabetical (A-Z)
• Alphabetical (Z-A)
• Choice value (A-Z)
• Choice value (Z-A)
• Display order for manually/custom arranged lists

If you manually reorder or edit the choices, the sorting control updates to reflect the resulting order where applicable, except while Reverse current order is selected so that you can apply that action again.

The selected method is detected from the saved choice order rather than stored separately. When several methods match, alphabetical text ordering takes priority. Lists with fewer than two choices show Display order.

Simple XenForo-Native Workflow​

There are no complicated configuration pages or separate sorting systems.

Simply:

1. Add or edit a choice-based custom thread or user field in the Admin CP
2. Open Options for choice fields
3. Choose the desired sorting method
4. Click Apply
5. Make any optional manual drag-and-drop adjustments
6. Save the custom field

The resulting order is then handled through XenForo's normal custom field system.
