This release improves canonical URL handling, notification email compatibility, and navigation from gated content.
Changes:
- Fixed canonical URL handling for gated threads accessed through bare thread IDs or outdated title slugs. The requested page is preserved when continuing.
- Added canonical metadata and a generic content-warning description to the interstitial without exposing post content.
- Added native thread prefix formatting and forum breadcrumbs to the warning page.
- Replaced three exact-text email template modifications with a dedicated rendering hook, improving compatibility with customized watched-thread and watched-forum notification templates.
- Updated the media-omission notice to use XenForo’s email colors while retaining its compact layout and attachment-link spacing.
- Fixed Continue from a post overlay to open the normal post permalink. Warnings reached through new-posts requests now continue to the normal thread URL.
- Updated the forum-index link to use the style’s muted text color.
Upgrade normally through XenForo’s Add-ons page; do not uninstall first. Existing settings are retained, with one exception: the redundant “Enable Prefix Gate” checkbox has been removed. If it was previously unchecked, the gated prefix is cleared during upgrade so Prefix Gate remains inactive. Select a gated prefix to enable it again.
Added:
- Added optional gated-thread media suppression for watched thread/forum notification emails.
- When enabled, images, attachments, embedded media, and embedded content are omitted from notification emails for threads using the configured gated prefix.
- Normal message text, quotes, formatting, and ordinary links remain included in the email.
- Suppressed attachments remain available as readable text links back to the originating post rather than being displayed directly in the email.
- Added a single “Media omitted from this email. View the thread to see media content.” notice when applicable.
- The new email-media suppression option is disabled by default so existing Prefix Gate behavior is not changed automatically on upgrade.
Behavior:
- Email media suppression applies to registered recipients even though fully confirmed registered members normally bypass Prefix Gate when viewing the forum.
- Normal, non-gated threads continue to use XenForo's standard notification-email behavior, including image and attachment previews.
- Direct-message notification emails are not affected.
- Custom BB codes continue to use their configured XenForo HTML email replacement.
- Existing guest, unconfirmed-user, acknowledgment, and alternate-media protections from 1.0.7 remain unchanged.
AdminCP:
- Reorganized Prefix Gate options into clearer Thread access and Notification emails sections.
- Retained the full explanatory text beneath each setting.
- Fixed HTML entity display in the gated-prefix selector so prefix names such as Movies & TV display normally instead of appearing as Movies & TV.
Improvements:
- Improved spacing between consecutive suppressed attachment links in notification emails.
- Corrected File Health Check packaging paths introduced during development of the new version.
Performance:
- No new database tables, background jobs, JavaScript scanning, logging systems, or external requests were added.
- Email-specific processing only runs when XenForo is generating an applicable watched thread/forum notification email.
- Existing in-request gate-state caching and lightweight Prefix Gate behavior are retained.
Compatibility:
- Implemented and tested against XenForo 2.3.13 notification-email and BB-code rendering behavior.
- Confirmed compatibility with Xon Multi Prefix 2.18.2 through Prefix Gate's existing
sv_prefix_idssupport.- Tested with gated and non-gated notification emails, multiple attachments, guest gating, and XenForo File Health Check.
Added:
- Added lightweight alternate-media protection for gated threads before acknowledgment.
- Added centralized gate-decision logic so thread views and alternate output paths use the same guest/unconfirmed-user, prefix, and acknowledgment checks.
- Protected direct post "show" rendering and thread new-posts AJAX rendering.
- Prevented gated post/thread embeds from rendering before acknowledgment, including a gated thread/post embedded inside otherwise ungated content and XenForo's external embed renderer.
- Suppressed gated media in BB-code-based alternate views while leaving readable text available. This covers expanded New Threads/Search Forum widgets and provides a safety net for other stock post renderings, including custom BB code that could otherwise render media.
- Suppressed attached-image thumbnails in What's New / Latest activity and member Latest activity for gated content.
- Converted gated Forum RSS and Search Forum RSS entry bodies to text-only snippets before acknowledgment.
- Suppressed article/trending thread cover images and featured-thread images, including custom featured-content images, until acknowledgment.
Behavior:
- Thread titles and text-only snippets may remain visible outside the thread. Version 1.0.7 targets actual rendered media rather than hiding ordinary text references.
- Acknowledging Prefix Gate restores normal media rendering for that browser for the configured acknowledgment duration.
- Fully confirmed registered members continue to bypass Prefix Gate.
- Users awaiting email confirmation follow the existing 1.0.6 option.
- Direct attachment/media URLs are intentionally not gated.
Performance:
- No new database tables, queries dedicated to logging, background jobs, JavaScript scanning, or external requests were added.
- Visitor eligibility, acknowledgment state, and configured prefix ID are cached in memory for the duration of the request.
- Media-specific checks run only on relevant public rendering paths.
Compatibility:
- Implemented against XenForo 2.3.13 stock controller, news-feed, template, RSS, embed, widget, article, featured-content, and trending-content behavior.
- Xon Multi Prefix compatibility is retained through the existing sv_prefix_ids detection.
Added:
- Added a new "Gate users awaiting email confirmation" option, enabled by default.
- When enabled, logged-in users in XenForo's email-confirmation states are required to acknowledge Prefix Gate like guests.
Behavior:
- The new option covers both XenForo email-confirmation states: email_confirm and email_confirm_edit.
- Fully confirmed registered members continue to bypass Prefix Gate.
- Other non-valid user states are not newly gated by this option.
- Disabling the option preserves the previous behavior where any logged-in user bypasses Prefix Gate.
- The same eligibility check applies to both normal gated-thread views and first-post hover previews.
- A successful acknowledgment continues to use the existing global browser cookie and selected acknowledgment duration.
Changed:
- Updated option descriptions so the guest/unconfirmed-user behavior is accurately described.
Prefix Gate 1.0.5 prevents unacknowledged guests from seeing the first-post content of gated threads through XenForo's stock thread hover previews.
Before a guest has acknowledged the Prefix Gate content notice, hovering a gated thread now displays:
Content preview unavailable until you open this thread and acknowledge the content notice.
After the guest clicks Continue, normal thread previews are restored for the remainder of the configured acknowledgment period.
This applies to both standard XenForo thread prefixes and gated prefixes used with Xon's Multi Prefix.
Unchanged behavior:
- Logged-in members receive normal thread previews.
- Guests who have already acknowledged Prefix Gate receive normal previews.
- Non-gated threads are unaffected.
- No new configuration is required.
