Q: Is this add-on free?
A: Yes. Asset Manager is available free of charge and has no visible branding.
Q: Is this a replacement for XenForo Media Gallery?
A: No. XenForo Media Gallery is a member-facing media gallery with categories, albums, comments, permissions, and community features. Asset Manager is an AdminCP tool for managing public website files beneath
/assets.
Q: Can regular members access Asset Manager?
A: No. Asset Manager is available only through the XenForo AdminCP and requires an administrator permission.
Q: Where are active files stored?
A: Active files are stored beneath:
They are publicly accessible through their corresponding
/assets/... URLs.
Q: Where are deleted files stored?
A: Recoverable deleted files are moved to protected storage beneath:
Code:
<xenforo-root>/internal_data/prash_asset_manager/trash
They are no longer publicly accessible while in trash.
Q: Will uninstalling the add-on delete my public assets?
A: No. Public assets are intentionally preserved. The uninstaller attempts to restore recoverable trashed assets before removing the add-on’s metadata tables.
Q: Do I need FFmpeg?
A: FFprobe is required for video validation and importing videos into the library. FFmpeg is required for video compression, conversion, resizing, and cropping. Image-only installations do not require FFmpeg.
Q: Do I need Imagick?
A: Not necessarily. GD can provide many standard image-processing operations. Imagick is required for preserving and generating animated GIF output. Available formats depend on the image libraries compiled on your server.
Q: Can I add files through FTP or SSH?
A: Yes. Run
Scan now after adding files, or allow the hourly scan cron to import them automatically.
Q: Can I download a complete folder?
A: Yes. Folders and their nested contents can be downloaded as a ZIP archive. The PHP Zip extension is required.
Q: Does it support large files?
A: Uploads are chunked in the browser, but the final permitted file size still depends on the Asset Manager configuration, PHP limits, web-server limits, available disk space, and processing timeout.
Q: Does the add-on secure the public /assets directory?
A: It validates supported media, rejects unsafe paths, and inspects uploaded content. You should still configure Apache, Nginx, or your hosting control panel to prevent script execution inside
/assets.
Q: Can folders use a different URL from their display name?
A: Yes. Folder titles and URL-safe slugs are separate. A folder titled
Latest News can use the shorter public path
/assets/news.
Q: Are media edits destructive?
A: Operations can create derivatives instead of replacing the original. Upload and processing screens can also retain an original copy.
