Eggy Thread Gallery — Frequently Asked Questions

What is Eggy Thread Gallery?

Eggy Thread Gallery transforms image-heavy XenForo discussions into interactive, customisable galleries while keeping the original thread and post system intact.

Members continue posting images normally. The add-on collects those images and provides dedicated gallery browsing, image management, voting, slideshows, contributor discovery, statistics and more.

Thread creators and authorised staff can also organise images, add titles and captions, highlight featured content and customise gallery presentation.

Does Eggy Thread Gallery replace XenForo Media Gallery?

No.

Eggy Thread Gallery works with images already contained within XenForo threads and posts.

It does not create independent albums, separate media comments or a duplicate media library.

The original XenForo discussion remains the source of truth.

How does the gallery work?

Members post images inside eligible XenForo discussions as normal.

Eggy Thread Gallery collects those images and presents them through a dedicated gallery interface.

Each image remains connected to its original member, post, attachment, posting date and discussion.

Does it support images across multiple thread pages?

Yes.

Images can be collected from across multiple pages of a discussion rather than only the currently viewed page.

This makes large, image-heavy discussions easier to explore.

What image types are supported?

Eggy Thread Gallery supports:
  • XenForo image attachments.
  • Supported embedded images.

Non-image attachments continue to be handled normally by XenForo.

What are Image Threads?

Image Threads are dedicated XenForo threads designed for image-focused discussions.

When opened, members are taken directly to the Gallery view.

The original discussion remains accessible through the Discussion tab.

Administrators can control where Image Threads are available.

Can ordinary discussion threads use Thread Gallery?

Yes.

Eggy Thread Gallery supports both standard XenForo discussions and dedicated Image Threads.

Can members post images directly from the gallery?

Yes.

A dedicated Post image button allows members with appropriate permissions to contribute images directly from the Gallery interface.

The image is submitted through XenForo's normal reply and attachment system and remains part of the original discussion.

Gallery Curation and Image Management

What is Gallery Curation Mode?

Gallery Curation Mode allows authorised thread creators and staff to customise how images appear within their galleries.

A dedicated Manage Gallery interface provides image ordering, titles, captions, featured images, visibility controls and bulk management.

Who can manage a gallery?

Gallery management is controlled through dedicated permissions and ACP settings.

Access can be granted to eligible thread creators and authorised moderators or administrators.

Ordinary members without the necessary permissions cannot manage another member's gallery.

Can images be rearranged?

Yes.

Images can be reordered using drag and drop on desktop and mobile devices.

Move Up and Move Down buttons are also available for individual image positioning.

Changes are saved to the gallery without altering the original order of XenForo posts.

Can individual images have titles and captions?

Yes.

Gallery managers can assign custom titles and captions to individual images.

These details are displayed within the gallery and image viewer.

The original post content remains unchanged.

What are Featured Images?

Featured Images allow gallery managers to highlight selected images.

Featured images receive a visible Featured badge and are prioritised within gallery presentation.

The Featured badge is visible to gallery visitors.

Does featuring an image change the gallery cover?

No.

Featured images and gallery covers are separate functions.

A gallery can have multiple featured images while maintaining its own automatic or manually selected cover.

Can images be hidden from the gallery?

Yes.

Authorised gallery managers can hide individual images from the gallery without deleting the original posts or attachments.

Hidden images can be restored whenever required.

This controls gallery presentation rather than removing the underlying XenForo content.

Can several images be managed together?

Yes.

The Manage Gallery interface provides bulk controls for:
  • Hiding selected images.
  • Restoring selected images.
  • Featuring selected images.
  • Removing Featured status from selected images.

Can gallery changes be reset?

Yes.

Reset Gallery restores the automatic image ordering and clears custom image titles, captions, featured selections and visibility settings.

Original posts and attachments are not deleted.

Are gallery management changes permanent?

Changes remain saved until an authorised user modifies or resets them.

Gallery managers can rearrange images, update captions, change featured selections and restore hidden images at any time.

Gallery Covers

What are Gallery Covers?

Gallery Covers allow a specific image to represent an image-focused thread.

Covers can also appear within XenForo forum thread lists, making image discussions easier to identify.

How are gallery covers selected?

Two methods are available:
  • Automatic Cover: Uses the first available gallery image.
  • Manual Cover: Allows an authorised user to select a specific image.

A manually selected cover can be changed or returned to automatic selection.

Who can change gallery covers?

Thread owners and authorised staff can manage gallery covers according to their permissions.

Regular visitors cannot modify cover selections.

Why do some members not see Automatic Cover or Current Cover labels?

Cover status labels are intended for gallery managers.

They are visible only to users authorised to manage gallery covers.

Featured image badges remain visible to everyone who can view the gallery.

Can administrators control thread-list covers?

Yes.

The ACP includes settings for enabling or disabling thread-list covers and configuring their thumbnail width and height.

Gallery Navigation and Discovery

What does the Gallery tab do?

Gallery displays images collected from the discussion in a dedicated visual interface.

It supports custom image ordering, titles, captions and featured images.

What does Latest do?

Latest displays gallery images newest first.

This is useful for active discussions where visitors want to see recent contributions quickly.

What does Popular do?

Popular highlights images that have received positive XenForo reaction engagement.

Images without positive engagement are excluded rather than being used to fill the view.

Popular uses native XenForo reactions rather than gallery votes.

What does Contributors do?

Contributors highlights members who have added images to the current gallery.

Information can include:
  • Member avatar.
  • Username.
  • Number of contributed images.
  • Latest contribution information.

Visitors can select a contributor to explore that member's images.

What is My Images?

My Images allows logged-in members to view their own contributions within the current gallery.

No separate album or additional upload process is required.

Can administrators choose which tabs are available?

Yes.

The Public Tabs settings allow administrators to configure which gallery views are available.

Optional tabs can also remain hidden when they are not relevant.

Image Voting

How does gallery voting work?

Voting applies to individual gallery images rather than entire XenForo posts.

If a post contains multiple images, those images can be treated as separate voting entries.

Votes are saved persistently and submitted through AJAX.

What voting modes are available?

Administrators can choose:
  • Disabled.
  • Up Vote + Down Vote.
  • Up Vote Only.

What is Up Vote Only mode?

Up Vote Only allows positive voting without negative voting controls.

It is suitable for competitions and community showcases where down-voting is not wanted.

Can members change or remove their vote?

No.

Successfully submitted votes are treated as final.

The voting control changes to a compact Voted state.

Can members vote for their own images?

Administrators can disable self-voting.

When disabled, members see a No self-vote indicator on their own images.

Does voting replace XenForo reactions?

No.

Gallery voting and XenForo reactions remain separate.

Popular uses normal XenForo reaction engagement, while Voting represents deliberate votes for individual gallery images.

Can Eggy Thread Gallery be used for competitions?

Yes.

Examples include:
  • Photography competitions.
  • Gaming screenshot contests.
  • Car of the month.
  • Pet photo competitions.
  • Artwork showcases.
  • Desktop setup competitions.
  • Community image events.

Members submit their entries through ordinary XenForo posts.

The Manage Gallery interface also provides responsive bulk actions, image movement controls and title and caption fields.

How does mobile tab navigation work?

On smaller screens, gallery navigation uses priority tabs and a compact More menu.

This keeps the primary views accessible without forcing members to scroll horizontally through a long navigation bar.

Does the add-on support custom XenForo styles?

Yes.

Eggy Thread Gallery inherits XenForo style properties and does not require a particular style ID.

The interface is designed to accommodate light, dark and custom community styles.
