I agree with @BassMan. Displaying offers/updates in status' should be perfectly allowable, as status' are personal to the user. Why was this rule implemented anyway?

Wait, wait, wait, so posting a link to a XenForo based site isn't allowed, but posting a link to a non-xenforo based site would be? Because that's what I just got from re-reading that.

I like it. I like seeing people's odd comments in statuses, but some days you come on and see status after status just advertising stuff. This isn't an advertising site, it's a support site.

No, this only removes self promotion of XF related sites that provide services or products.

Relating to a specific software that other people use. The fact that people's status' are more visible isn't the fault of people. Maybe a checkbox to decide whether or not the status appears in the recents list would be better. And yes, this change has really pissed me off.

All of the XF service, etc promotion already has designated areas on the site -- the RM, service offers, etc. People have the ability to be notified of updates and offers through these. It is simply duplicative and, based on how some users have been using it, spammy.

I guess not...

Just to clearify @Mike or @Jeremy so I don't get in trouble, since I do try to help promote xF Universe.. a site like TAZ or xFUniverse (fan site) or IGN (general site) can still freely advertise in your profile?

I guess (and hope) we can still have link to our sites in signatures. It's pretty much the same thing for me.

If you're making a passing mention of your own site, I don't think that is something that is going to raise eyebrows. But if you're "advertising" or doing it excessively, that may be different. A rule list is never going to cover 100% of situations and will be adjusted over time.

Thanks @Mike Would the "If you're making a passing mention of your own site" for a commercial site be allowed too? Not an ad for a service but just something like "John Doe's Addon Shop fully revamped.. Check out our new look" be allowed and considered just mentioning a passing mention?

Your site is covered under 3rd party services, and it would fall under this rule.

Yeah an inclusion of this religious stuff would be nice as well. I must admit I am so put off by it that I find myself visiting XF less frequent than I used to do because of it.

I understand that it's abused tremendously but this rule affects myself and I feel I don't abuse it. I think the best way I can alert XenForo owners of sales on my add-ons is through either: a) a thread, b) a post in all of my resource discussion threads [spam], or c) a status update. Option C has always seemed like the best choice

it's less spamy in my opinion and my sales don't always/never warrant a thread in the resource discussion area (in my opinion). Please tell me, next time I have a sale, what is the best way to promote it?

It's a clear case of a handful of people taking advantage and ruining it for everyone else who use the profile posts responsibly.

I hope something is done about RM too.. Someone updating 50 styles at once now filling all of page one and two of the RM is spammy too.. Just my 2 cents.

Updating resources for the sole reason of bumping to the top have always been removed. Otherwise, there is nothing that can be done about it and it's a valid use of the RM.
