Xenforo VS Vbulletin 6

Hi, I am sure this question has been answered for old versions, but, what are the big "advantages" of Xenforo compared to vBulletin "6"?
Opinions, facts? especially regarding speed and SEO and I am talking about out of the box versions.

Greetings

There's a VB6?
After a fashion. It did contain a few upgrades over version 5, the main one being the change of version number :giggle:

It was a money grab, a direct result of perpetual licensing introduced with version 4. Version 5 had low sales so they tweaked a couple of things, stuck a 6 on the end and tried to pass it off as a new product.

@MySiteGuy what you actually proved is not that AI is useless, but that you asked it a question about something it had no verifiable information on.

If you ask, "What do you think about user XK?", without any concrete data, the answer can only be generic or cautious. In fact, it would be far worse if it started making up facts about a person.

The real value of AI becomes clear when you ask it questions based on data, sources, or technical information. If you give it precise instructions, it can analyze vast amounts of documentation in seconds, compare sources, identify patterns and statistics, and summarize information that would take a person hours or even days to gather and process.

So your example doesn't demonstrate a limitation of AI. It simply shows that you asked it a question without any objective data to reason from. Judging a tool based on the wrong use case is like saying a microscope is useless because it can't see the stars.
Who said I was trying to prove it was useless? I've never said AI was useless.

I was trying to illustrate your style of dealing with people and also flawed Xenforo market analysis. Furthermore, I didn't simply ask chatgtp a question. I gave it in-depth instructions, which included telling it to use your posts (which are verifiable data about your posting style) and to fact-check what you say.

Though your response has the initial appearance that you tried not to be abrasive and insulting, you couldn't help yourself and assumed I'm too stupid to effectively use chatgpt. You can skip the tutorial.

I found it was a big upgrade with all the features their customers were after.
A shame many of them left because the changes they were after took too long and made them impatient.

Even old mate who dabbled in chatgtp on here was asking similar questions on the vb site.

Me personally i tried it and my crew kept asking when are you going back to xf.

Changes affect others. You don't want to be asking for a bucketload of them.

I need popcorn.
Happy to oblige :)

From the horse's mouth:
Biggest changes are an updated style with a new font, new icons, circle avatars, and other enhancements.

For me personally vB 5 or 6 is worth experimenting with and then migrating back over here.
Why? They have a lot of good stuff on their forums.
But it gives you experience on what their current software is like.

Personally, I think vBulletin peaked with vBulletin 3. Version 4 was acceptable to some extent, but I didn't even bother checking out versions 5 or 6.
Same was stuck with vb4 for years before I decided to switch eventually vb.org closed down and devs stop updating for vb4 understandable but it made those sites unusable eventually u paid for life time access back then but no such thing as life time if it passed EOL

Out of the box, it really comes down to modern architecture versus legacy technical debt:

  • Speed & Performance: vB6 is essentially built on top of the sluggish vB5 node-based core, which hammers the database with queries. XenForo is built on a modern, lightweight PHP framework with native WebP support, minimal database overhead, and excellent Core Web Vitals straight after installation.
  • SEO: XenForo has rich JSON-LD structured data (DiscussionForumPosting) natively baked in. Canonical URLs, clean routing, and crawl-budget controls (like noindexing thin search or profile pages) work properly by default. vBulletin still struggles with messy URL parameters and duplicate content issues.
  • Mobile UX & Spam: XF’s default responsive style actually feels like a modern mobile web app, and essential spam mitigation (StopForumSpam, Akismet, registration timers) is built directly into the core installer.
vB6 is largely a cosmetic update over an outdated engine. XenForo simply runs faster, indexes cleaner, and doesn't require dozens of tweaks just to get decent baseline performance.

Back from the days of V3 they moved to V4 making addons defunct with not much interest in authors updating them, then moved to V5 and addon authors didn't bother, I didnt check V6, during this time Xenforo was developed with plenty of addons. I hope future Xenforo updates dont kill off all addons again.

Hi, there, my first post on the forum! I currently have a forum running on vBulletin 6.2.2. It has existed since 2004 and now has more than 9000 members, 18 000 topics and 700 000 posts. I am on the verge of moving to Xenforo, but I see that there is no converter from vBulletin 6. Will that cause me issues?

Have a look at this page....

Seems to offer a service to move from VB6.x to Xenforo. Contact them and they'll quote you a price for the work.
