Thread Dossier - Structured reference deck, post citations, and visual-diff community suggestions for long threads.

Thread Dossier solves one of the oldest structural issues in forum software: the long-thread knowledge trap.

When an important discussion, troubleshooting guide, build log, or review thread reaches 20, 50, or 100 pages, the most valuable insights get buried in pagination. Post #1 goes stale because authors get overwhelmed, standalone wikis get ignored, and threadmarks only point to single posts without synthesizing information.

Thread Dossier docks an authoritative, structured...

Hi, your plugin is compatible only with version 2.3, yet it appears as compatible with all version 2 releases. This needs to be fixed.

In any case, it’s a plugin that addresses a significant need, so when I upgrade to 2.3—or rather, to 2.4—I’d be happy to check it out.

i can't get a feel where the "Dossier" lives ?

Using this thread as an example, would it appear just after the thread title but before the first post ?

Is the dossier accessible to other areas of Xenforo ?

Could I use [dossier]240059[/dossier] or [dossier]Thread Dossier[/dossier] in another forum to have the dossier appear elsewhere ?

The only example I know of this is Xencarta allows wiki entries to be posted anywhere in Xenforo. Jaxel described it as using xenforo's native content system (or something like that) ?

@association Thanks for pointing that out. I've updated the resource compatibility flags so it properly reflects XenForo 2.3+ only. Appreciate the heads-up, and hope it serves you well when you make the jump to 2.3/2.4!

@Digital Doctor Your intuition is spot on:

Where it lives: Yes, exactly there. It anchors right below the thread title and page navigation, immediately above Post #1. The idea is that whenever anyone lands on the thread—whether from search engines or regular browsing—the up-to-date Executive Brief, verified citations, and curated resources are front and center before they delve into the chronological posts.

Cross-forum accessibility / BB Code: That is a great suggestion. Currently, the Dossier is anchored specifically to its parent thread to maintain context with the active discussion. However, adding a native [dossier=123] BB code tag or rich card unfurl that lets you embed a live Dossier summary into any other thread, post, or page is a fantastic idea and fits right into XenForo's content architecture. I'll get that built into the upcoming 1.1.0 update.

It seems the dossier is tied to the thread, I don't think that's terrible.
So I think the following should be allowed as referencing.

[dossier]thread number[/dossier]
[dossier]thread title[/dossier]

Consider: allowing dossier to have alternate names. Maybe for SEO purposes, finding purposes, but mostly referencing purposes.

[dossier]Porsche[/dossier]

Do you have a demo ? If I can see what you have so far, I can help more.
