My experience is a user can be a lurker for several months before joining. It's frustrating but you just have to keep going with the content.

@ak38 couldn't agree more! I have hardly anybody using my gallery now despite having a decent archive from past uploads. An auto gallery creation or auto add to a users personal collection would be great.
