I fixed it by creating a new server from an Amazon Server Image, copied the entire web directory over to the new server. Now all is OK. So it looks like it was server related. Thanks

You can tell rcync not to delete. My plan is to do a two way sync. So web2 server will sync from web1 server, then web2 server will sync to web1 server. This is only temporary for an expected heavy load. Do think my sync plan will work? NFS is a good suggestion. thanks
