  • Mate, just got linked the thread from elsewhere and even though it was months ago it's worth responding. As a dev you are completely in the right to pass the software you have legally licensed to someone else to install. The person installing the software is then bound by the license as well.

So relax and know that morally and legally you are in the right. :)

I think it's clear that I am responding to Twisted's comment

A and in response to your response, any add-on purchaser should read carefully the terms of the licence. They shouldn't pass on their account login details to a third party either. ;-P

true only when done without the author's knowledge, which clearly wasn't the case with me, though I admit the developer was asked to install the mod at the same not the author was told.
As I suggested to Slavic, XF should form a base rule which oblige all authors to make clear to buyers if 3rd party devs are accepted or not

All mod authors before you all talked directly to my dev without hassle, and I assumed you would be same, but I recognise that you were not happy so I can approach you differently in future

The only thing I wasn't happy with, which I told you at the time, was your attitude. If not for that, none of this would have happened.

Anyway, as Mike said this issue is closed so we all move on - I have a forum to build up to a world level. Thank you, a Brogan.
All view points should be permitted here, unless someone uses bad language - a case of abuse of authority. (If my review's been removed)

Moreover how much of us have been asked to debug some of our addons with a admin access and a ftp account? Any dishonest developer here could steal other's work. Would it be the fault of the admin? Are we going to forbid developers to debug on some admin websites? It's a nonsense.

Another thing, if I'm a company, I've got some employees to manage my website for me or I can ask an external provider to do this job for me. Wake up, that how IT sector works.

Well this is the thing, if Xf and authors like the one in question put it all on the honest buyers' heads with no flexibility, security will eventually decrease not increase. Too much narrow thinking here.
Obviously the maker of that mod can't take criticism and as he's a moderator here he has removed that post, this shouldn't be allowed.

By poor support means not being willing to support a paying client when that client is honest and tell the mod author that a developer will be installing and handling the mod purchased

Martok: As I said many times over, if you read, if I wasn't honest, then why would I tell the author exactly what I was doing? Why are other authors all talking to my dev and this author refused? you can of course make judgements but they are just your own.
